Race 2 of the 2012 World Series Renault round at the Nurburgring has been a tough one to analyze. While a thick rainfall started to fall right before the start, a dry stint was followed by the rain again at the halfpoint and stayed there through the closing stages. On Sunday, BVM Target completed five pit-stops, three for Giovanni Venturini and two for Nikolay Matsenko. The Italian, who started from the 11th row after clocking the 22nd fastest lap of Qualifying 2, recovered several spot and even managed to clinch the points zone. In his two trips to the pits, from slick to wet tires and back, he lost positions but settled for a positive 14th-place finish.
Martsenko also provided the team with a great recovery from the 23rd spot on the grid. After having clocked the 21st fastest lap in Qualifying 2, he was moved back due to a spin that brought out a red flag. As he caused an interruption, the stewards deleted his best time of the day as prescribed by the rules and Nikolay lost two positions. He didn't surrender and fought back in spite of the tough weather. Unfortunately, Nebilitskiy touched him and flattened one of his rear tires, forcing him to retire. Now the BVM Target cars won't be back home in Italy, as the team will be heading towards Moscow. Next weekend, the World Series circus will be making its debut at the new Moscow Raceway, designed by Hermann Tilke and located 70 kilometers away from the Russian Capital.
