On the last May 14 and 15, the World Series Renault approached the third round of the 2011 season at Monza. The Italian event, unlike Alcaniz and Spa-Francorchamps, was not part of the Renault Sport frame which also includes the Megane Trophy and the Eurocup F.Renault 2.0. The 3.5 series run alongside the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), in a really renowned frame that required a change in the usual weekend scheduling. After two shorter qualifying practice sessions, qualifying 2 was held right after race 1, on Saturday.
For BVM Target, the round at Monza represented a special moment, although unfortunately the results scored were way behind expectations. At the end of the weekend, Sergio Canamasas scored some points after having ended up in 8th on race 2. On race 1, the Spaniard went off at Parabolica at lap 3 while he was holding the tail of the leaders. The overall performance of Zampieri was conditioned by engine issues, which were admitted in the end by Renault. The Italian racer was forced to retire on race 1, while after starting race 2 from the last place of the grid, he recovered up to a points spot, before losing positions due to a slight mistake at Parabolica.
