It's been ad unforgettable race for Daniel Zampieri at his comeback in the World Series Renault with BVM Target. After a tough qualifying session where he ended up last due to tire troubles (he had never turned a lap with rain tires), the Rome-based man was off to a sensational race. After having lined-up with slick tires as well as his colleagues, he faced rainy conditions right after the start. At least ten drivers were forced to retire due to off-track exits and many others went back to the pits for rain tires. Then on lap 4 the safety-car came in and two laps later the race got red-flagged due to the crashed cars on-track.
At the re-start, with a wet racetrack and the rain, Zampieri started a sensational recovery, making several passes and taking advantage of his rivals' miscues to fight back to 6th place. His duel with Da Costa proved extremely tough: unfortunately, the Spaniard clipped his left rear wheel with a resulting puncture. Daniel was forced to come back to the pits with a flat, ending up in 10th: a positive result for the Italian squad. Nicolay Martsenko, who had qualified in 23rd, also recovered several spots at the start. Unfortunately, he went off-track on lap 2 at Beckett and was forced to retire with a damaged wheel.
