Ramos, BVM-Target move into championship lead

BVM-Target brought Cesar Ramos at the top of the Italian Formula 3 Championship standings at Varano. The Italian team, owned by Roberto Venieri and Giuseppe Mazzotti, finally found the right pace in the series, and after having scored several podium finishes plus one win at Hockenheim, Cesar now stands in the lead with 103 ponts, with a 4-point margin over second-placed Stephane Richelmi.

In qualifying, the Brazilian clocked the second fastest lap of the day, holding off Andrea Caldarelli by just 0.006s. Thanks to the decision to start the race behind the safety-car, he kept second through the end. On Race 2, he ended up in 6th after starting in 7th due to the reversed top-8 format. As he topped Richelmi and scored both races' fastest laps, he managed to nail the lead in points.

BVM-Target fielded a second car at Varano. While Federico Scionti was sidelined for medical reasons, Barrett Mertens replaced him for the occasion. The American clocked the 21st fastest lap in Practice 1, having to increase his confidence with the Varano autodrome and the team's Formula 3 Dallara (he used to race a Mygale chassis). Mertens then took 23 on practice 2, before cruising to a row 10 spot on Qualfying. He climbed up one spot on race 1, ending up in 19th, while he kept position on Sunday's race 2.
