The long trip of BVM Target to Moscow hasn't brought the team the results expected on track for Saturday. The brand-new circuit, located about 100 kilometers away from the Russian Capital City, had its first run on Friday with practice for the World Series Renault 3.5. BVM Target brought on-track for the first time 16-year-old Sergey Sirotkin, who replaced Giovanni Venturini.
In the first practice session, the Lukoil-supported driver decided to focus on getting in touch with the new car and ended up in 23rd. His team-mate Nikolay Martsenko couldn't do better than 26th due to some set-up issues. In the second session of practice, Sirotkin went off-track right after putting new tires on and did not complete the work scheduled. After 50 minutes, the Russian youngster was in 8th, but in the end had to settle again for 23rd while Martsenko improved to 19th.
In Qualifying 1 he was pushing hard in the closing stages but committed a mistake with one minute to go. As the red flag was exposed, he lost his best lap and was classified in 26th and last. Due to a misunderstanding with his pitbox, Sirotkin came to the pits late and while he was improving his laptimes constantly, the red flag cut his chances for good. In Race 1, the BVM Target drivers stayed around the 20th position. Unfortunately, Martsenko spun and was forced to retire. Despite being caught in a mistake too, Sirotkin managed to get back going and finished in 20th, one lap down.
