The second race of the 2012 World Series Renault 3.5 brought BVM Target another podium finish to BVM Target and this time it was not Russian Nikolay Martsenko to hit the top but his team-mate Giovanni Venturini. The Italian took-off from the 11th row and, after avoiding a first-corner incident and recovering several spots in the process, he fought in the middle of the pack. He defended himself until he was called back to the pits. The BVM Target crew proved incredibly fast enabling Venturini to take the 9th place, a position he maintained until checkered despite the pressure by Andre Negrao and Zoel Amberg.
It's been a great result for Venturini, who suffered from hard luck in Race 1, while BVM Target was able to confirm its name into the top-10 after the great performance put together by Martsenko. Once again, after starting in 22nd, he proved great in finding the right path through the initial melee. Unfortunately, this time a later spin proved costly for him an also paid the price of a pit mishap. The Russian fell way down the order, ending up in 15th.
BVM Target can draw a positive balance for the first 2012 round of the championship, as both the team's young rookie drivers performed well in the tough environment of the Renault-promoted series.
Roberto Venieri - Team Principal
"If someone had told me, before leaving for Spain, that we would have scored such results, I would have been extremely happy. Martsenko and Venturini were great in the two races as they captured two valuable points finish. Although both of them suffered from some unlucky breaks, Giovanni in Race 1 and Nikolay in Race 2, their season start has been really positive. The team did a good job and both our rookie drivers worked hard to hit the top-10. We're now focusing on the next race, scheduled between the streets of Monte Carlo".
