It's been a great weekend for BVM Target at Varano, for the fifth round of the 2009 Italian Formula 3 Championship. Championship leader Daniel Zampieri cruised to a stunning victory on Race 1 after clocking the pole position in Qualifying. He also drove at the top for the whole race, scoring the fastest lap of the day.
In addition to Zampieri, newcoming Marco Zipoli lived up to expectaions after agreeing to replace Edoardo Liberati. Zipoli, at his second season in Formula 3, dominated Race 2 after starting up front. The duo is currently at the top of the charts with Zampieri rounding up the 115-point mark, followed by Zipoli at 99.
On Race 1, Zampieri was too fast for everyone, as he led each lap and kept control at the re-start after a tangle between Glorioso and Campana. Zipoli started from 8th, climbing back to 6th at T1 over Campana and Sanchez. He then kept 6th place until the finish, clinching the pole spot for Race 2, when he replicated his team-mate's effort by dominating from flag to flag. Zampieri was less lucky, as he was hit by two cars on lap 6 and forced to retire shortly after. The team is now headed towards Imola, for the next round of the series on September 6.
Giuseppe Mazzotti, Team Manager
"It's been an almost perfect weekend. Zampieri took the pole, won Race 1 and clocked the fastest lap, while Zipoli took victory on Race 2. We now have two drivers at the top of the charts. It's tough to ask more!"
